Mute no # - promotional 12 inch single
(release date: 1985)
This was a promotional item, and was never for sale to the public.

1. It's Called A Heart (Extended)
2. Fly On The Windscreen (Extended)

Notes: The first single to have a promotional single pressed for it. Before this single, radio (and retailers, clubs, et cetera) were sent stickered copies of the singles (usually from Ferret & Spanner, the UK "plugging" [promotions] company). This single had it's own promotional 12 inch single. It had no proper sleeve, and the labels were simple white labels, with a rubber stamped graphic of the front cover!

The initial copies of the 7 inch single came with a mini-poster.

Mute reissued the standard 12 inch single in the early 2000's. The pressing featured a host of printing errors, including leaving the band's name off of the front cover, and reducing the labels down to just simple black text on a white background (the original labels have unique, colored text).

The limited 12 inch was the first single from Depeche Mode to come in a "double pack" (two records in one thick sleeve).

The "Slow Mix" of "It's Called A Heart". Alan Wilder put it best: "...you do need to be particularly devout to endure it - slowing it down to half speed made it twice as long - probably not a very good idea - twice the agony."

Notes: The "Emotion Remix" and "Emotion Dub" mixes of "It's Called A Heart" were done by Joseph Watt, who is one of the remixers of the Razormaid remix service. These mixes, however, are not the actual Razormaid mix of the track. These remixes of are exclusive to this 12 inch single, and to the digital collection "The Complete Depeche Mode", from iTunes. They have not appeared on any official CD release.

The "Deportation Mix" of "Flexible" is practically identical to the "Pre-Deportation Mix", but for some unknown reason, it doesn't fade out. The "Pre-Deportation Mix" has a fade ending, but this mix just goes until it stops cold. The effect is similar to a tape machine running out of tape - it just stops. This mix has never appeared on an official CD release.

Notes: This single was not released in Japan.
