Personal Jesus (Single Release)
August 29th, 1989

Depeche Mode released "Personal Jesus" on August 29th, 1989. The first single from the album "Violator", "Personal Jesus" was released barely a year after the legendary "Concert For The Masses" show at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena (as seen in the film "101").

Produced by Depeche Mode and Flood, and mixed by Francois Kevorkian, "Personal Jesus" went on to become one of the biggest selling singles in the history of the band. The song has been covered by artists ranging from Johnny Cash to Marilyn Manson, and was re-released in 2011 as part of the "Remixes 81-11" compilation.

Using footage from the music video, Violator EPK and 86>98 interview films (all taken from the "86>98+" video compilation), and a Spanish TV performances (thanks to our friends at the DM TV Archives), here is a look back at "Personal Jesus".
